Chromosome: a structure that organizes dsDNA in a cell through interactions with various DNA binding proteins.  Chromosome: a structure that organizes dsDNA in a cell through interactions with various DNA binding proteins.

-In prokaryotes (bacteria), chromosomes usually have a circular dsDNA molecule. In eukaryotes, chromosomes are usually linear structures with two ends called telomeres. The dsDNA is organized around a repeating protein structure called a histone octamer. dsDNA wrapped around a histone octamer is called a nucleosome, and nucleosomes (together with many other DNA-binding proteins) interact with each other to form a dynamic, folded structure called chromatin.
