RNA polymerase: the enzymeplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigEnzyme: a macromolecule, usually a protein (but sometimes an RNA), that functions as a catalyst of some kind of biochemical reaction. that carries out RNA transcriptionplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigRNA transcription: the process of RNA polymerase using the DNA sequence of a gene as a template to form an mRNA (in prokaryotes) or pre-mRNA (in eukaryotes). In most cases, “transcription” implies RNA transcription.. There are many different types of RNA polymerase, but in this book we collectively refer to them as just “RNA polymerase” for simplicity.
